The Idaho State Referee Committee welcomes our new State Director of Instruction, Rob Walters.  Rob is excited to join our team and has a deep love for soccer, assisting new and experienced referees on their journey, and seeing our work in the classroom and on the field continue to improve.

Rob moved to Idaho from Kansas 2 1/2 years ago after being appointed here for work and currently serves as a United Methodist pastor in Boise.   He is married to his wife, Renee, and they have an college-aged daughter and a 10-year old son. Rob has master’s degrees in music education and divinity and is currently working on a doctoral degree.  In addition to his teaching background, Rob previously served in the role of State Director of Education and State Director of Assessment at different times in Kansas, a state with thousands of referees and a large growing program on the youth, adult, and professional levels.   He has refereed for over 30 years at all nearly every level from youth to college to adult to professional soccer.  He is also a state instructor and state assessor.

Rob looks forward to getting to know each of you better, brainstorm where our instruction program should go, and continue his passion for teaching instructors to be better teachers and also helping improve our referee program.  He wants to help you get to where you want to go.  Feel free to reach out and say hello via sdi@idahosoccerrefs.org.  Are you a grade 7 referee or above and interested in instructing?  Contact Rob today.  If you are a current instructor, look for information coming from Rob soon about opportunities to connect and take the next steps.  DRA’s can expect a conference call soon to set some goals together.  Referees and leagues should expect ELC opportunities beginning in mid-July running through early September.  Grace 7 clinics will be offered as well for those wanting to upgrade.  Recerts will happen this winter.

Lastly, Rob wants to thank Matt Huston for his time as SDI.  It was Matt, Riley, Jason, and Alex that initially welcomed Rob to the state and he is thankful to all those who serve today and have previously served.  As the previous SDI, Matt brought great passion and new ideas to the instruction program and Rob appreciates Matt’s work, as do we all here on the SRC and in Idaho!
